A. ADVERTISING
It is expected that some kind of joint advertising will be brought about. This
will be advertising Sodwana as a whole and not any individual part such as the
Parks Board, the Lodge etc.
It may be decided that all members will be entitled to their name or logo on
such an advert but that will be up to the executive committee to implement.
B. APPEARANCE
This is taking the rule about uniforms a stage further.
All members will be expected to strive towards a neater, more professional
appearance. While we cannot enforce such things as shaving, dirty shirts,
unkempt hair etc. it will be hoped that the members will adopt a self regulatory
attitude.
C. CO-OPERATION BETWEEN OPERATORS
Though it is accepted that we are all in competition with each other it is
considered desirable that all members co-operate wherever possible. For example
by not parking vehicles, boats and trailers where they know it will cause a
fellow operator unnecessary hardship. This again will be self regulating but
will be a vital part of the whole association.
D. BUSINESS ETHICS
It is expected that all members will adopt a common code of business ethics with
fellow members. While it may be acceptable to approach a company in Johannesburg
to offer your services it will be considered unethical to approach that company
on the beach in Sodwana while he is using another member’s services.
Similarly if a deal has been done on the beach for example concerning a night
dive, it will be considered unethical to approach those customers afterwards
with a cheaper price.
E. STANDARD OF EQUIPMENT
Again though covered in the rules it is expected that members will keep
their equipment up to an acceptable professional standard.
F. PRICE STRUCTURING
While we do not want a rigid price control in Sodwana it is hoped that that
members will not indulge in a "cut throat" price war.
While there may be short term benefits to that member the long term prognosis
will not be beneficial to Sodwana as a whole.
G. CONSERVATION
It is our intention to draw up a set of guidelines concerning the use of the
reefs which all members agree to abide by such as but not limited to :
1. Recommend the use of gloves be avoided subject to genuine exceptions.
2. Recommend the touching and interfering with all sea life be avoided.
3. Prohibit the acquisition of any corals.
4. These issues to be implemented with the ongoing education of the public and
operators as to why we should avoid these
actions.
