Almost certainly the greatest challenge to sport in South Africa is bringing sport to those who were previously unable to participate. Breaking down the barriers that existed until recently is both time consuming and costly, but, even so, absolutely necessary.
SAHA is almost unique, insofar that the promotion and provision of the
game to ALL citizens of South Africa has not been a recent development brought
on by the changing politics. We pride ourselves on the fact that our
Development Programme has existed since 1986 and is the envy of some higher
profile sports in South Africa.
In the past four years over 2000 hockey players in the Development programme have progressed from grass roots level to the more advanced coaching clinics, with some reaching the national squads.
The Development Programme is ongoing and attracting more national and
international recognition. Equally, more funding is being sourced to ensure the continuation of the scheme.
