What
is high blood pressure and how do you know if you have it?
Blood
Pressure is the force of blood pressing against the walls of the arteries which
carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body. If blood pressure is too
high, it may damage the walls of the arteries and cause a buildup of fat and
cholesterol. This will then cause the heart to work harder to push blood through
the arteries and raise your blood pressure even more.
Most
people don't "feel" high blood pressure. It is often found when you
visit your doctor for another reason or during a routine exam.

It
is recommended that people with diabetes keep their blood pressure in the range
of 130/85 or lower to avoid any damage to the blood vessels.
