Prodigy Computing

Prodigy Computing (no relation to the online service) is a small IT consultancy based in Johannesburg, South Africa, specializing in tool development, middleware, and technology transfer. We cater primarily to the financial sector.

Shareware

It often happens that we develop tools in the course of a project that other people might find useful. Some of the tools are too specialized or esoteric to be of general interest. (Or too confidential to make freely available.) But some we distribute as shareware.

Do you still use old 16-bit comms programs that fight with WinFax?: We have a cheap solution: wfListen.

For Delphi Programmers:
IniControls: components to handle Windows .ini files
T-Rex, a powerful, easy to use textfile parser for Delphi.
Version Info, a quick way to display in your About box the same Windows-style version information that appears in Explorer.

For SQL Server DBAs: AlterTab: A free script generator for changing SQL Server tables: lets you do all the things you wish ALTER TABLE did, but doesn't.

J-PORTAL - a database-independent schema/code generator that creates standard Java classes and eliminates embedded SQL from Java programs.

Consultancy

Prodigy is not actively seeking new clients, because we believe that serving our exising client base comes first. But we hate turning away interesting projects, and so we are seeking new talent.

A typical Prodigy consultant has 8+ years of experience in information technology and has expert-level skills in at least three specialist areas: examples are compiler writing, database design, application generator construction, bare-metal Windows programming, network messaging. If you fit this profile and you think you might like to join (or rejoin) the ranks of the hourly paid, send us a CV.
