Author / photographer Colin Mead on the crest of a 400-m sand dune in the Namib desert. This region, Sossusvlei, boasts dunes rivalling those of Death Valley in Eastern California and Western Nevada, USA.
Climbing the dunes (with or without photographic equipment) is no easy task, especially in the heat of high summer when temperatures can soar into the upper 40°C's. The author took three hours to climb this dune - and 15 minutes to come down again.
