MANIR since 1985
ABOUT MANIR

MANIR International has been established 1985, in Yugoslavia, by Dusan Sakulski and Slobodan Sajin. At the end of year 1994 Dusan Sakulski (myself) has emigrated in South Africa and established a new company, MANIR South Africa.

My tertiary (faculty) education is in civil engineering. I have an extensive experience in disaster management, integrated water and environmental management, as well as transportation and pavement management. During more than 17 years of experience I have been extensively using information technology (full list can be seen in my CV).

At present, I am running South African National Disaster Management Centre - NDMC  (http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za). My task is to co-ordinate and integrate various areas of information technology (GIS, database, web), satellite imagery and remote sensing, mathematical, statistical and optimization tools. All my work is database driven, web-enabled!!! Sounds nice! I'll give you some examples:

1. My personal specialty is on-the-fly mathematical, statistical and optimization analysis and visualization. At present I am running a very unique Web-based service. My clients order various types of mathematical, statistical and optimization analysis. I make it, and they use it via web. As an example go to:

2. What about thousands engineering related applications written in Fortran? Most of them are free. But, one can run it only on one computer. I am running it via web??? Check this: http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za/fortran/wave.htm Simple web page, but put your attention on the address bar of the result page! WebTest.exe.

3. Just web-enabled GIS:

4. How long one will wait to obtain monthly rainfall for his/her country? In the case of South Africa, not more than a few minutes! (http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za/Safari2000/ then click on WR90... under item Rainfall Data).

5. World monthly rainfall data (http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za/Safari2000/nasa/rain/cntrlist.asp).

6. Any type of graph on-the-fly (http://edmc1.pwv.gov.za/edmc/disaster/fld_inp.idc ). Visualization of the flood peaks data for South Africa. Data are stored in relational database and graphed on-the-fly.

7. Recently, we made agreement with NASA to become a Regional Data distribution Centre (for satellite data) for Sub-Saharan Africa. At present, we store ~ 4000 MODIS images (using part of the total storage capacity of 1.4 TB) and rest of the world-wide community can download MODIS data for free (http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za/Safari2000/ the click on any link under Satellite Data). NASA people prefer for new users to, formally, register at: http://www.safari2000.org , please.

8. Web-enabled data visualization on-the-fly (http://edmc1.pwv.gov.za/edmc/default.asp then click on Rain Animation). Radar rainfall data, received every hour via ftp, stored into a relational database, end animated on-the-fly.

9. Database driven, web-enabled integrated air quality management system (http://sandmc.pwv.gov.za/struja/airqsql/ ). Unfortunately, system is password protected, but anyone can log on as a guest. Client: ESKOM, the biggest power utility company in Africa.

I hope, after all of this, you will understand that my experience and knowledge is in INTEGRATION and CO-ORDINATION using various tools, operating systems, programming languages, file formats, …

If there is more you want to know, I am ready to answer.

Read my CV (resume) for more info. Also, CV is available at: http://resumes.yahoo.com/dsakulski/eureka .

Sincerely, Dusan Sakulski
