When things go wrong or do not go the way we had planned, we always blame God saying
'what kind of God would allow this to happen?', or 'what did I do to deserve this?'. It is not God's fault.
He being absolutely forgiving, is not capable of holding grudges or hatred and He could never punish anyone, least of all
any of His beloved children. He loves us all too much.
But then what prevents us from making the same mistakes over and over again if there is no system of punishment
for wrongdoing - for this God instituted a perfect system of reward and punishment called karma.
Everyone is accountable and responsible for their own actions and deeds - so in effect you judge and punish yourself automatically.
Karma could be compared to a spiritual bank balance, being adjusted by the way you think, act and treat others.
If you are loving, kind and considerate - you build up a positive balance.
If you are cruel, unkind, greedy and selfish - you build up a negative balance.
This balance is added to and subtracted from everytime you think, say and do anything. Your karma follows you always from incarnation to incarnation.
Karmic debts cannot be written off as can financial debts - they must be settled.
There are three main aspects contributing to karma;
|
Physical Verbal Mental |   | - - - |   |
killing, stealing, injuring, sexual misconduct, etc. lying, slander, harsh words, etc. greed, hatred, selfish thoughts, etc. |
Karma yields the same fruit as that which is sowed. If you cheat someone, you will be cheated. If you kill someone, you will suffer the loss of a loved one just as the loved ones of the person you killed lost a loved one. The inverse is also true, if you love someone - you will be loved, if you help someone - you will be helped. Most often the returning karma only takes effect in a subsequent life. You may suffer wondering what it was you did to accumulate this karma not realising you are paying for something you did in a previous life.
