The Fat Sound owes its distinctive sound and style to the fact that most of the arrangements played by the band have been arranged and/or composed by band members
In addition, many arrangements were written specifically for the band by jazz musicians such as Noel Stockton and the late Stan Jones.
The following section gives brief details of arrangers and band members presently composing and arranging for The Fat Sound.
Bruce Cassidy : Jazz Soloist, Trumpet & Flugel Horn & Arranger

Ian Donaldson : Arranger
Ian was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and toured with several Big Bands in the UK while in his early twenties. He moved to what was then Rhodesia where he played drums with ex-Ted Heath pianist Dave Simpson. He emigrated to South Africa in 1972 and played with Bob Adams at the official opening of the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg. He then played solo piano at Sun City for several years before moving back to Johannesburg. He has made many TV and radio recordings and was responsible for many of the Fat Sound arrangements.
Sadly, Ian passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 27th April 2005, but his music lives on in the many wonderful arrangements he wrote for the Fat Sound.
