Sport and Exercise Psychology
This course offers every qualified Sport Scientist, Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Fitness Instructor and Sports Coach the opportunity to learn more about the athlete and/or exercise client. The course content covers the following:
- Equipping the student with sufficient knowledge about the effect of psychological factors on physical and motor skills execution
- The effect of physical participation on the mental health of every athlete/exercise client in order to develop a better and healthy lifestyle
- Advanced knowledge on how to compile a psychological and physical exercise programme
In addition, this field of study aims at describing and improving the top-level performer's psychological functioning, personality makeup, pattern of interpersonal relationships, development of leadership qualities, handling of sports-related emotions, skills development and eventual retirement from the sports environment.
Naturally, the sports enthusiast will realise how disastrous the consequences would be if decisive match information is interpreted wrongly so that the wrong decisions are made at the wrong moments. In addition, these discussions and guidance on interpersonal skills and relations for participants in sport make this an invaluable supplement to any training programme for sportsmen and sportswomen.
Some of the outcomes are to provide the exercise and sport psychologist with the training that will promote the integration of physical programme design with a mental programme for motivation and performance, such as:
- Stress reduction programme
- Relaxation breathing programme
- Self-conditioning
- Setting of performance achievement objectives
To be able to achieve these outcomes the prospective student should already have the following qualification/s:

- or
- Personal Trainer qualification
or - Group Fitness qualification
or - Fitness Instructor qualification
