Ramblings on my site
and the world around me

December 2010

And so the soccer world cup has come and gone and all is well at the southern tip of Africa. We did not run out of food or electricity or anything. I am not a soccer fan but I did watch 2 games, the opening and the closing games Apparantly a good time was had by all.

This year was hectic for me with my company starting a major project and I thus did not have much time for photography. However, I have added the odd new picture and these are mostly in the Other stuff pages. Check out the sailing ships in the Experimental page. I would love to get some comments on the pic. Can one still classify this as photography? I built the Golden Hind on my engineering 3 D design package called Inventor from plans that I found on the Internet. Inventor Studio was then used to render the image of the ship with virtual lights and a virtual camera. The result was combined in PhotShop wirh some reaal photographs of the sea and the sky. The water spray is courtesy of my girlfriend stamping her foot in a puddle of water. I rather like the end result.

I had some intersting experiences on a website that supplies a contact service between photographers and models. After loading up my prtfolio most of the comments and e-mails were from other photographers. I have suspected for a long time now, that it is mostly photographers who look at other photographers' work. The models' portfolios consist by and large of the standard studio type pretty pictures and so far none of them has been brave enough for a shoot. Ah well...
