LOROSAHB DECEMBER 1996 NEWS LETTER

LOROSAHB is presently organizing a one-day symposium which is to be held on Friday 31 January 1997 at the Commando Lecture Room, SA Army College, Van Riebeeck Street, Voortrekkerhoogte, Pretoria. The symposium starts with registration from 8:00 to 9:00. The cost of attending this symposium is R55 and this includes, tea and lunch. Overnight accommodation for delegates is not covered by the attendance fee. However, as LOROSAHB has more than a hundred up- market bed and breakfast establishments at its disposal, overnight accommodation can be arranged. Prices range from R120 to R200 per person and the accommodation is in close proximity of the venue. Delegates should indicate in their replies if they wish to make use of this facility. The purpose of this symposium is to plan ways and means whereby you as participant, curator or researcher, or your museum or institution, can derive maximum benefit in the organizing of tours to your museum as well as take advantage of the spin-offs which are envisaged as part of the commemoration of the Anglo Boer War Centenary. As LOROSAHB acts in a facilitatory capacity, your input regarding the centenary celebrations is not only invaluable to the League, but will greatly benefit your institution and boost tourism to your local museum. The main speakers at this symposium are:

Dr. U.S. Kusel:	The future and amalgamation of Museums, collection management, and resource generating.
Dr. Gert van den Bergh:	The future of military cultural history in the New South Africa and the role it will play in the future development of SA and its ties abroad.
Maj Du P. Martins:	What LOROSAHB has to offer as facilitator regarding tours, research work, news and in the generating of new tour routes
Col N. Nothling:	SAMIC's role in the promotion of military historical tourism in SA
Ms Anne Lawrance:	Lessons learned from 30 years as tour organizer of Sakabula Tours regarding how museums can enhance their sites as prime tourist attractions
Ms Pam MacFadan:	The Natal recipe. The secret of why Natal Battlefields are an economical viability and world renowned, whereas other historical battle sites are relatively unknown.
Mrs M. Naidoo:	The role that SATOUR is going to play , or can play, in propagating cultural historical aspects regarding tours to battlefields, museums and in rendering assistance in the development of new routes.
