AFRICAN LEGENDS

The Drummers open the show silhouetted aginst their huts, beating the rhythms handed down since long before Zulu or Shaka walked the land. Then the real beat starts...

AFRICAN LEGENDS incorporates the old and the new of South Africa: Everything from early traditional chants such as "uMakoti" to the Sophiatown days of King Kong Kwela, Shikisha to Mudjadji, Phata Phata to Umqombothi. You'll hear Makeba, Mabuse, Clegg, Chaka Chaka and a host of others' songs that helped shape the industry we know in South Africa Today. The show tells parts of the story of South Africa's patchwork quilt of artistic and cultural heritage. Tales of heroes to township hits - they're all there.
