The Lotus 72 was designed by Maurice Phillipe and made its debut at the Spanish GP in may 1970 It won a total of 20 Grand Prix and 3 Constructors titles. Jochen Rindt and Emerson
Fittipaldi won the World Championship driving the Lotus 72.
A total of 3 Lotus 72's were owned  by South Africans and raced by Dave Charlton, Paddy Driver, Eddie Keizan ,Guy Tumner and Ian Scheckter
